Initiated by her observations of shadows on the ground, the artist spent many weeks perfecting the technique used to convey objects with two dimensions onto canvas. Instead, the object is transformed into a representation of the subject, where the surface becomes the carrier of it's individual interpretation of the subject, particularly when the subject is alive or perishable like people or fruits. Alexa Meade's painting style, which is very ephemeral in nature, is apparent. The only piece of her art to survive is the photo. Trompe l'oeil can be achieved using the two processes of photographing and painting. This creates a flattened, two dimensional photograph. Meade can sometimes incorporate her painting into the surrounding three-dimensional environment that allows the model to be a part of the world of their own. By doing so, Meade has removed the borders between painting, photography and performance.
