
Ormond was born in Epsom (Surrey) as the daughter Josephine Ormond, a laboratory technician , as is John Ormond. She is the fifth of five kids born to her parents. Her first appearances in Guys and Dolls and My Fair Lady attracted attention. Then, she went to Cranleigh School and Guildford High School. After a year in art school , she was redirected to Webber-Douglas Academy of Dramatic Art which she attended until 1988, when she graduated. Ormond made her debut appearance on British television's 1989 serial Traffik. It revolved around illegal heroin trade between the far East as well as the streets of Europe. Ormond played the addict daughter of the main character, a Home Office minister in the UK government that was involved in fighting heroin importation. The role was Ormond's debut and received glowing reviews.
